Match Report: SVOB vs Falmouth Rugby Club (H) – Sunday 30th July
Fact or Fiction?
Result: SVOB 130-6; FRFC 131-8 . FRFC won by 2 wickets.
Team: Paddy Varker, Bobby, Nicray, Dickon, Mark, Boom Boom, Cake
(Capt), Steve J, Liam, Dogger, Alan.
The SVOB took to the field in upbeat mood under the captaincy of Cake. Batting first, the Old Boys got under way in steady fashion with Paddy (Judas) Varker and Bobby, who put on 25 for the first wicket. Falmouth bowled well and proved troublesome for the SVOB batsmen who struggled on a damp pitch, finding it very hard going.
Bobby’s 19, Dickon’s superb 40 and Boom Boom’s 25 not out were fine efforts in the conditions and helped to give the home team a score of 130 for 6 from the agreed 30 overs.
FRFC’s reply started off in poor fashion, giving hope to the Old Boys. Dogger and Liam ripped into the top order, dismissing numbers 1-5 with ease. Dogger’s figures of 2-12 and Liam’s of 3-14 should be commended. It was good to see T’Steve turn out for the Seaview and his LBW shout which captured the wicket of big hitting Baglow was further evidence that our successful youth coaching system is paying dividends.
However, Falmouth’s lower order did serious damage and after Baglow (15) was out Instance (33), Searle (25 n.o.) and Hubble (24 n.o.) blasted them to victory, eight balls remaining.
