Match Report: SVOB vs Falmouth RFC (H) – Monday 21st August
Result: SVOB 134 for 8; FRFC 138 for 4. FRFC won by 6 wickets.
Team: Mark, Ed, Dickon, Tribey, Damian, Will, Russell, Boom Boom, Cake, Liam, Luke, Alan.
This is a very short report due to last minute visa problems before setting off for the annual cricket tour.
FRFC fielded a very strong team for this Hine Downing 20/20 clash, the latest in the ongoing series.
SVOB batted first, setting a target of 134 for the loss of eight wickets. Mark (24), and Damo (42 off 31 balls), were the star batsmen. For the rugby team Baglow claimed three wickets for just five runs in three overs, while Rodda took 3 for 14.
The SVOB’s total was very pleasing against such strong bowling but FRFC set about their task of chasing the runs with venom. Openers Mercuri and Jones put on 39 for the first wicket. Jones went on to make an unbeaten 52 before he was retired. Man of the match Baglow, 31 not out, and Rodda (30 retired), were the other main scorers and, with five balls of the match left, Baglow hit the winning runs with a boundary.
Deserved victory for Falmouth RFC, but a good match and there are sure to be many to come over the seasons. Thank you to Trev and his team.
Meanwhile spare a thought for the Old Boys as the touring squad head over the water to foreign climes for their three matches in the depths of Dartmoor. Wish them luck on this gruelling ordeal. An advanced party leaves on Friday evening, led by Damo, to make preparations for a successful weekend.
