The SVOB midweek XI travelled to Kernick Road, Penryn to take on the might of St Gluvias in this crucial Mining League fixture – 20 overs.
St Gluvias elected to bat after winning the toss and started their innings with all guns blazing. After a couple of overs the hosts were heading for a total of 200, such was their blistering power at the crease. However, a combination of tight bowling and lively fielding stemmed the flow of runs.
All the bowlers played their part in keeping St Gluvias to 110 runs off the allotted 20 overs. Ed 0-18, Luke 0-16, Damo 4-35, New Paul 2-22 and Will 1-15 were the figures. The top batsmen for St Gluvias were Banister 31 (retired), Lilly 25 and Ambrose 19. One highlight was Tarby’s catch near the boundary to dismiss Lilly off Damo’s bowling, another was the dismissal of A. Julian when he was caught behind by Mark from New Paul’s bowling.
In reply the SVOB needed to keep their heads, and their wickets, against a strong bowling attack, spearheaded by Duckham. Mark and Tarby got the Old Boys off to a solid start.
The first wicket fell on 14 – enter the rejuvenated Ed at number three. He made a blistering 31, (retired), off twenty balls, including an almighty six. New Dave’s 13 kept the score ticking along and Damo batted with his usual aplomb, bringing the team home with an attractive 33 not out. He was ably supported by Will 7 and New Paul 10 not out.
112 for 4 was reached with ten balls of the match left, and so the match won by the Seaview by six wickets, their second victory over St Gluvias this season.
