The second match this week was played at our old favourite, Channel 4, against Beacon in the Andrew Cup. It was quite clear before the start that the Beacon players were impressed by our last minute match preparation and team talk – thank you Delia for your input with the crate of Verdant beer.
A really entertaining game saw Beacon bat first and make 153 for 4 in their 20 overs. The sweaterless Cardigan top scored with 59 before he was bowled late on by Cake. Earlier, Mark had stumped their opener (you still reading Alan?) and New Paul made amends for his drop by taking a difficult catch on the boundary off Damo’s bowling.
Our answer to this difficult target was to send in Mark and Damo to open our account. After Mark’s dismissal Damo and Bobby took the game to Beacon and kept up with the required run rate. When Bobby went, Stuart then Will did their best to keep it going. Sadly, with Damo on 68, (off 48 deliveries), and having smashed two successive sixes out of the ground, he was stumped, thus bringing an end to our realistic hopes of reaching the target.
A second defeat in three days but, as Damo said, it was very enjoyable and we didn’t disgrace ourselves. The Beacon team enjoyed it too and were very surprised at how well we played, after seeing a crate of beer disappear so quickly. They are keen to play us next season in Sunday friendlies.

The Sunday friendlies resume at the weekend with a proper ‘friendly’ against Trengilly away. Team orders from the Damo – meet at the ‘view at 12 noon.
